And then the clock on the tree branch points in the direction of the area in-between the clocks. For example, the clock that is sliding down the white looking hand thing, the hand looking thing is pointing towards the direction of the other clocks. The dominant pathway is created from the surface the clocks are on, or one case the clock itself. Lastly, emphasis is also demonstrated through the dominant pathway. Variety is present because all the clocks are different, they have the same qualities but they’re all presented differently, the clocks are all on different surfaces which cause them to slope downwards to the bottom of the painting. The principles of design are also used in the painting one of the most obvious one seen is variety. The organic shapes allow the viewer to distinguish all the clocks from each other, and it helps from the uniqueness of this painting. Shape is a major characteristic of the painting because all the clocks have organic shapes. Another element of design used is the shape element. The artist also used the element of texture using a different brush technique to make everything surrounding the clocks appear rough as a way to make the clocks more appealing to the eye because the clocks appear smooth. The element of value is present because the artist uses light brown in the background and dark brown in the foreground to create depth. In the painting the design elements of value, texture, and shape along with, the principle of variety and emphasis each play an important role. The cloth does not seem to have familiar characteristics it is also in the middle of the painting. Lastly, the last clock is sliding off what looks like a cloth with lashes on the end of it. The next clock is on the same step as the pocket watch but this clock is on the slide of the step and it is sliding off the step. The clock on the tree is hanging over the tree branch. Then there is a clock on a tree branch, the tree branch has no leaves on it and the tree is lonely, it‘s the only tree. The pocket watch is on a flat surface that looks like a step also it is the only watch that is not gliding off the surface it is on. The clocks do not have the same time they are also gliding off the surface they are on. The clocks are in the foreground and in the background there’s the ocean coast. There are total of four clocks, three of the clocks are analog 12-hour format clocks. Salvador Dali’s landscape oil painting The Persistence Of Memory (1931) has three tortilla-looking clocks and a pocket watch laid across across certain objects.
